It’s not just French food that’s popular in Dubai – French sports are also growing in popularity and especially amongst les enfants! The laidback game of pétanque has found a winter home on our terrace, artfully installed amongst the Bay trees. This relaxed sport is being enjoyed by those in the know who enjoy a relaxing few hours under the glow of the sun competing against friends and family.
The quintessentially French game of pétanque was originally thought up by Ernest Pitiot, a local café owner near Marseilles in the early 20th century and the game is a family favourite, suitable for all ages. Try to get your boule as close to the target as possible, and bear in mind that nothing is decided until the last boule is thrown, which keeps the game exciting right up until the final minute. The game also benefits from its versatility, and can be played on most surfaces, meaning that spontaneous pétanque is always a possibility.
Easy to play, yet fiendishly difficult to master and an ideal companion to some al fresco dining! La Serre’s brightly coloured and lighter weighted balls are perfect for children to play whilst parents enjoy a leisurely morning or afternoon dining on some delicious French cooking.
