This September, the brand-spanking new all singing and dancing hub of arts and culture ‘Dubai Opera District’ is set to launch in the heart of Downtown.

Tourists and residences will be spoiled for choice with the program of world-famous shows and performances at the Opera House with a confirmed schedule from the 31st August until February 2016. We have cherry-picked the ones we are most excited about next month.

1. Placido Domingo

Placido Domingo at the Dubai Opera

Placido Domingo, the Spanish ‘King of the Opera’ who famously sang alongside Pavarotti at the FIFA World Cup in Italy will be in Dubai, joined by Grammy-winning soprano Ana Maria Martinez. We are certain this will be a truly spectacular evening. Buy your tickets here.

2. Pearl Fishers

Pearl Fishers at the Dubai Opera

The Pearl Fishers set in ancient times, is an emotional tale of love, betrayal, and sacrifice. The three-act opera will be performed in French, however, there will be Arabic and English translations. Buy your tickets here.

3. The Barber of Seville

The Barber of Seville at the Dubai Opera

Considered one of the greatest comic operas ever composed, The Barber of Seville follows the adventures of a handsome young count and his mischievous barber, Figaro. Buy your tickets here.

4. Impossible


Fresh from London’s West End, ‘Impossible’ could quite possibly be the most dangerous show Dubai has ever seen, featuring the world’s best illusionists reinventing the biggest illusions in history. See the show from 26th-30th September. Buy your tickets here.

Here at La Serre, our Head Chef has created a pre-show menu available from 5:30pm in the Boulangerie and a post-show menu in the Bistro, available from 10:30pm – 11:30pm. Excitable opera guests don’t have to worry about what to eat with the deliciously light set menus. (Guests coming for the post-show menu in the Bistro must show proof of their Opera ticket upon arriving at reception) .

5. Elsewhere in the city

For an insightful experience of the Ottoman era, City Walk is hosting an exhibition of the famous Turkish TV series; Hareem al-Sultan from 1st-30th.


At the Dubai Community Theatre and Arts Centre (DUCTAC) multi-award winning violinist Benjamin Schmid will be performing with Swiss-born pianist Ariane Haering on the 23rd September. Buy tickets here.

Also in the world of Art, the current artist in residence in the Boulangerie at La Serre is Welsh-born and Dubai resident, Karen Axworthy, who shares her story visually, through colourful and intense art. Karen Axworthy’s exhibition is on in the Boulangerie until 7th November.
